It was the sheer variety of projects being carried out by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) participants in this course in Abuja, Nigeria which guaranteed its success
Using a mixture of practical exercises and audio visual techniques, the course aimed to put communications at the heart of every project
The course also explained how to make stories more compelling and some of the pitfalls to avoid when dealing with the media
Thomson Foundation designed and implemented a training programme to demonstrate the essential need of communication to the United Nations' mission and to its development programmes in Nigeria. Training was aimed at people implementing projects – from supporting democratic institutions to introducing greener techniques for fish smoking – who needed to communicate the impact of their projects on different aspects of Nigerian society more effectively.
