Ethical election coverage in the world’s third largest democracy

Fact checking was a key lesson for journalists taking part in an election coverage training programme ahead of Indonesia’s 2014 presidential elections. Black campaigns — spreading negative, often false- rumours about other candidates — are a common feature of the presidential race. The training was designed to show how the media can help bring a wider understanding of the main issues without increasing tensions.
