Helen designs and manages programmes for the foundation, working with both donor funders and media organisations. She has been associated with the foundation for 30 years working all over the world as a hands-on trainer, consultant and manager.
She is a strategic advisor for Thomson's Sudan programmes and her recent work also includes overseeing a number of freedom of expression projects in Thailand and delivering a five-year rolling programme of high level training to Thailand’s media regulators, NBTC.
She began her career as a print journalist working for the UK’s national newspaper the Daily Mail. She moved into television where she worked in news, current affairs and documentaries as a programme maker before assuming an executive role as Controller of Factual Programmes at ITV, overseeing a 50-strong department making shows for the world’s major broadcasters.
She has worked as a consultant for a range of media organisations, including the Royal Television Society, Sky, ITV and Channel 4.
Helen is a board member for the Sheffield International Documentary Festival and sits on the education committee of the Royal Television Society. She is an alumna of the University of Kent, and Cardiff’s School of Journalism.
