New role at Thomson for Federica Varalda

We are pleased to announce that Federica Varalda has been appointed as Managing Director – Development for the Thomson Group. She will be leading project development and acquisitions globally from Thomson’s office in Berlin.

Federica is succeeding David Quin and previously held the position as Thomson’s Director of Group Operations. Federica is an experienced media development professional having managed and renewed some of the Thomson’s biggest programmes of the last decade.

In addition to her development role, Federica has also been appointed as Geschäftsführerin of Thomson Media gGmbH in Germany.

“Federica has shown that she is a formidable programme manager with an eye for detail on big, global projects with complex structures," says Caro Kriel, Thomson Foundation’s Chief Executive. "In her new role, Federica will lead Thomson’s growth with institutional and other funding sources, as well as key partnerships.”

“I am thrilled to continue building on the strong programming base and network we have in place and lead a growing talented team during a time where media models are shifting, disinformation is polarising public discourse and journalists are under threat," says Federica. "Navigating these challenges, among many others, will require resilience and a commitment to upholding the core values of independent journalism, which lay at the heart of Thomson’s mission.”
